Setup & Configuration

Configure your account and preferences for the best experience.

VPA works out of the box with sensible defaults, but you can customize your experience by configuring AI providers, default models, and account settings.

Account Setup

When you first sign up, VPA creates a default configuration that lets you start analyzing videos immediately. Here's what you might want to customize:

1. Profile Settings

Update your display name and avatar in Settings → Profile.

2. AI Provider Keys (Optional)

VPA can use your own AI provider API keys for unlimited usage. This is optional - VPA includes default access to get you started.

💡

Why add your own keys?

Using your own API keys gives you:
  • Unlimited analysis without usage limits
  • Access to the latest models as they're released
  • Direct billing with your AI provider
1

Get an API Key

Sign up for an account with your preferred AI provider:
2

Add Your Key to VPA

Go to Settings → API Keys and click Add Key. Select your provider and paste your API key.
3

Select a Default Model

In Settings → AI Models, choose which model to use for analysis. Vision-capable models are marked with an eye icon.

3. Custom Models (Advanced)

If your provider has released a new model that isn't listed, you can add it manually using the Add Custom Model button in Settings → AI Models.

⚠️

Custom Model Requirements

Custom models must support vision/image input to work with VPA's video analysis. Text-only models will not produce useful results.

Recommended Configuration

For the best experience, we recommend:

  • Model: GPT-5, Claude 4.5 or Gemini 3 Pro family (best balance of speed and quality)
  • Frame Count: 4-6 frames for most videos (more for complex motion)
  • Default Generator: Set based on which AI video tool you use most
